DIFFUSING LIFE'S DIVISIVE ISSUES

The PURPOSE Question Part 1

Who you are, is the starting point to discovering and understanding your Purpose. However, let's first establish a few basic truths:

  1. You are not your name.

  2. You are not your family.

  3. You are not your past.

  4. You are not your sexuality.

  5. You are not your education.

  6. You are not your habit.

  7. You ARE NOT your affluence.

These are frequently used labels that we give ourselves, in order to feel some sense of notoriety. Nevertheless, this begs the question: "If I'm not these things, who am I?" Friend, let's take a moment to truly add clarity and distinction to a commonly misused area of our human experience. These labels that we attach to ourselves answer the question, "What do you do?" However, they fail to answer the question, "Who are you?" In fact, when meeting someone, we typically ask in this exact order: what is your name and what do you do for a living? Still, this does not reveal who you truly "are". The answer to this question, reveals "Why" God created you.

To further this point, let's say that you "are" scissors. Okay, great. Now, what do scissors do? Well, scissors cut. That's pretty clear I think. Now, you can use scissors in other ways, but it's not recommended. For instance, you could use a pair of scissors to eat food. Perhaps, you could also use scissors to mop up a spill. You might even use them to paint something. But, neither of these will yield the result that you'd desire in the end. But why would that be true? It's because scissors were not created to be an eating utensil, cleaning tool, nor paint brush. Their identity reveals the motive for which they were created. Again, they are scissors...and scissors...cut.

Friend, your "true" identity, reveals the motive for which God created you. Your clarity regarding this, is the primary key to seeing the rich fulfillment of The Kingdom of God in your life. So what is your "true" identity that reveals God's motive for creating you? Let's answer this question through God's righteous lens of the Scriptures:

2 Corinthians 4:6-7 (KJV)

6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (KJV)

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV)

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

2 Corinthians 6:16 (KJV)

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

The Lord Jesus said:

John 14:17, 23 (KJV)

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Friend, the recurrent theme of these passages, even underscored by The Lord Jesus, is that mankind was created to be God's "vessel/container" or "temple" if you will. We "are" the "earthen vessels" that contain the persons, authority, power and glory of God. All humans, regardless of their beliefs, hold this designation. This carries a significant revelation regarding your identity. And, The Father, in His deeply affectionate loving-kindness, didn't want us to struggle in being the containers of His glory that we are called to be.
